Tolerance
1. Romans 2:4. Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God's kindness leads you toward repentance?
// this was, I felt, one of only two sort of positive references. in the middle of a discussion about judgement, this says God's tolerance toward us is a good thing, leading us toward repentance.
Tolerate
2. Esther 3:8. Then Haman said to King Xerxes, "There is a certain people dispersed and scattered among the peoples in all the provinces of your kingdom whose customs are different from those of all other people and who do not obey the king's laws; it is not in the king's best interest to tolerate them.
// so their customs are different and they do not obey the king's laws and the king shouldn't put up with it.
3. Habakkuk 1:3. Why do you make me look at injustice? Why do you tolerate wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; there is strife, and conflict abounds.
// this seemed to me like Habakkuk saying to God: look around You, do something! as a side note, I wondered at the arrogance I display when I have this same attitude. as if God needs the injustice, destruction and violence pointed out to Him. Surely it is infinitely worse for Him to watch.
4. Habakkuk 1:13a. Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; you cannot tolerate wrong.
// again, a seemingly negative reference about tolerance. that God is holy and cannot look on evil or put up with wrong.
5. Habakkuk 1:13b. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are you silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?
// the wicked keep doing bad things, are You going to stand for it!
6. Revelation 2:2. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked men, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.
// this to me is the other positive reference, and it speaks to not tolerating wicked men as a good thing.
7. Revelation 2:20. Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols.
// negative all the way. God has it against them that they tolerated someone who led God's people astray.
Tolerated
8. Esther 3:4. Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply. Therefore they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai's behavior would be tolerated, for he had told them he was a Jew.
// Mordecai was defying the command of the king and not doing what everyone else was doing, they thought this was unacceptable behavior the king should not stand.
